On April 11, 2019, Wendy Williams filed divorce documents to begin the court process between herself and her husband Kevin Hunter. The two have been married for 22 years and share an 18-year-old son named Kevin Jr.
Williams is asking the court to determine the appropriate amount of child support for their son, in spite of the fact that he is an adult.
Ontario Child Support Laws
In Ontario, children over the age of eighteen may be entitled to child support in certain circumstances. If the child of the relationship is enrolled in full-time post-secondary education, they are entitled to child support from the parents. If the child is living at home with one of their parents, either for the school year or for summer months, the resident parent is entitled to receive child support from the non-resident parent.
Additionally, children who struggle with disabilities that render them dependent can qualify for child support indefinitely, or for the length of time for which they are dependent. It is not clear whether or not Kevin Jr. would fall under either of these two exceptions to the age limit of eighteen.
