Matt Helders, founding member and drummer for the Artic Monkeys, has filed for divorce from his wife of two years, Breana McDow Helders.
The couple started dating in 2011, and got engaged in 2013, prior to their wedding in 2016. Together, they have a three year old daughter.
It is unclear whether Breana intends on pursuing a claim for spousal support. However, given that their marriage was relatively short, it is unlikely that she would be awarded support for a lengthy period of time.
In Ontario, many people believe that spousal support is calculated using the date of marriage, however, this is not always the case. When parties cohabited prior to marriage, spousal support is determined based on the date that cohabitation commenced. Relationships of short duration without children tend to give rise to little or no spousal support. In the case of Matt and Breana, their six year relationship may give rise to some spousal support entitlement, however it would be of limited duration.
